Parallax Film is a women-led production company, co-led by Sundance Award-winning filmmaker Paulina Skibińska and Hot Docs alumna Julia Pełka. Based in Warsaw, we create bold, visually distinctive documentaries that combine formal precision, emotional depth and stories that resist simple answers. 

 

Paulina Skibińska’s film Object received the Short Film Special Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for an IDA Documentary Award. Following its European premiere at Clermont-Ferrand and its online premiere through The New York Times Op-Docs, the film screened at more than 150 international festivals and cultural institutions worldwide.

Julia Pełka’s Fat Kathy had its world premiere at the Warsaw Film Festival and its international premiere at Hot Docs. The film went on to screen at festivals around the world and was featured in an extensive article by The Economist. 

Together, we created Lonia & Bronia as part of Hot Docs’ alumni programme It’s Funny Because It’s True, with Julia participating as a Hot Docs alumna. In collaboration with the Stefan Batory Foundation, we have also produced a series of seven short films for NGOs, highlighting socially engaged initiatives and voices too often unheard: The Center for Wetland Conservation, OSP Malec – Volunteer Fire Service Association, Kobieta na PLUS Association, Strefa WolnoSłowa Foundation, Utøya – Dialogue Countering Radicalization, Sistrum, and Ładne Historie Foundation.

Together, we develop auteur-driven films from their earliest intuition through production and distribution. Rooted in close observation, poetic form and the tradition of Polish documentary cinema, our work explores urgent social issues through intimate human stories.
